Bangladesh’s interim Test captain Mominul Haque told newsmen at a post-match media interaction in Kolkata on Sunday.
Bangladesh lost the game by an innings and 46 runs, which was their 46th innings defeatinthe Test Cricket. Touring Bangladesh also suffered a humiliating an innings and 130 runs defeat in the first Test against the hosts India in Indore.
Mominul, who was made interim captain of Bangladesh Test team after world famed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan slapped with a two-year ban by the ICC due to failing to report corrupt approaches, was among the Bangladeshi shaky batsmen, who failed to come up with a resolute performance in the match.
Mominul rather suffered an unwanted fate as he made an embarrassing pair with successive ducks in the test series as the second Bangladesh captain after Habibul BasharSumon.
“Bowlers were moderate in this game, but the batsmen failed to live up to the expectation. We failed to perform as a team, as a unit. I think we have many things to improve. If we can do that properly, we might be able to display better performance in the coming years when we have many games to play,” Mominul told the media.
India won the Test, riding on the tremendous bowling performance of pacers Ishant Sharma and UmeshYadav. They helped India to register their first-ever Test win without any spinner taking a wicket. The pacer-trio- Ishant, Umesh and Mohammad Shami- bagged 19 wickets in this Test which is the record of taking most wickets in a single Test by the Indian pacers.
“They have devastating pace-pack. They are experienced and they can decide faster than us. It was a real challenge for us to bat against them and pose a better performance. Ishant is a tall-bowler. He gets better bounce than the others. Umesh, on the other hand, has a great seam position. In a word, the Indian pace-attack was too good for us,” Mominul added.
“They are now one of the best pace-bowling attacks in the world. They are ahead of us both in technically and tactically,” Bangladesh captain further added in the post-match media briefing.
This Test was in complete control of India from the very first over of the game. They pipped Bangladesh in almost every single over in Kolkata that proved how this Indian set-up can adapt to the condition so quickly and perfectly.
