Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to accord a reception to Akbar Ali-led ICC U-19 World Cup champions Bangladesh team on Sunday (March 8).
The date was changed as per the request of BCB due to the ongoing series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel MP said that all the arrangements for reception were already made and the Prime Minister was also ready to accord the reception.
“But the cricket board requested us to defer the date for the ongoing Bangladesh-Zimbabwe series and we conveyed the message to the PM and she gave her consent, now the programme will be held on next suitable day”, he said.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel MP informed the matter to the reporters at a reception programme of Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation at Dhaka Club on Sunday.
“We are really grateful to the Prime Minster, who always consider giving us time for country’s sports events, in the upcoming ‘Mujib Borsho’, PM will attend some nine sports programmes, which is a great privilege for us and for sports” he added.
State Minister also informed that earlier PM wanted to accord a reception for the SA Games medal winners and ICC U-19 World Champions team in a same programme.
“Sports ministry will sort out a way with Bangladesh Olympic Association as well as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to make the programme together” Russell further said.
