Bangladesh team suffered a 0-1 defeat against India in the opening match of the six-nation South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-16 Championships played at the Changlimithang Stadium in the Bhutanese capital Thimphu Saturday afternoon.
With the day's defeat, Bangladesh U-16 team needed a win or at-least draw against Nepal in the remaining group match on Monday (September 4) at 7 pm to stay in the race.
After a keenly contested first half of the day's match, Singh Usham scored the match- winning goal for the Indian young blues in the 74th minute by a stunning shot at the back of the net, capitalizing on Malngiang pass (1-0).
After conceding the goal the young Tigers were found very desperate to make an equalizer, specially in the last ten minutes, but failed to beat Indian keeper Suraj Singh despite of repeated attempts.
Earlier, Bangladesh keeper Nahidul Islam also made some brilliant saves foiling some Indian attacks.
Earlier, Bangladesh was placed in three -team stronger Group A with India and Nepal while Group B teams comprises the Maldives, Pakistan and hosts Bhutan.
After the group matches, top two teams from each of the two groups will play in the semifinals on September 8 while the final will be held on September 10 at 6 pm.
