A six-wicket haul from left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam and a near-century by Nurul Hasan Sohan headlined a day in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) on Thursday.
At Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Shoriful starred with the ball, finishing with career-best figures of 6 for 40 to help Rupganj edge Brothers Union by 10 runs via the DLS method in a rain-hit contest.
Earlier, Soumya Sarkar top-scored with a fluent 80 as Rupganj posted 277 for 9. In response, Brothers reached 260 for 9 before rain stopped play with two overs remaining.
Shoriful struck twice in his second over to leave Brothers reeling and later returned to remove key middle-order batters.
Despite Mahfijul Islam's 76 points and Sumon Khan's (34*) late fireworks, the Brothers were narrowly defeated due to rain intervening.
The win lifted Rupganj to fifth on the table with 13 points, securing them a place in the Super League. Brothers, with just 5 points from 10 matches, remain 10th.
In another match at BKSP, Dhanmondi Sports Club rode on captain Nurul Hasan Sohan’s 97 and Yasir Ali’s unbeaten 55 to chase down Rupganj Tigers’ 280 with five wickets in hand and 17 balls to play.
Sohan anchored the chase with a composed 95-ball knock featuring nine fours and two sixes. Nasir Hossain earlier top-scored for the Tigers with 77.
Gazi Group overwhelmed a depleted Partex Sporting Club by 170 runs. Enamul Haque Bijoy continued his good form with 78 runs, taking his tally to 618 in the league — the highest so far.
Sabbir Hossain (64*) and Shamim Mia (53) contributed with key knocks. Partex, missing several regulars due to a pay dispute, collapsed for 132 in pursuit of 303.
Australian-born Bangladeshi cricketer Yasin Muntasir made his debut for Partex and picked up two wickets but could not prevent another heavy defeat for his side, who remain near the bottom of the table.
