Bangladesh beat Oman by 26 runs in their second match of Round 1 of the ongoing T20 World Cup on Tuesday in Oman.

Shakib Al Hasan led the Tigers both with bat and ball to seal the match.

After the shocking defeat in the first match against Scotland, Bangladesh had no way but to win against Oman. Tigers managed to win the match despite disappointing batting performance after winning the toss and opted to bat first.

While chasing a challenging target of 154, the hosts Oman tumbled for 127 for nine in 20 overs and lost the match by 26 runs. They had a 10-wicket win in the first match against Papua New Guinea.

Jatinder Singh, who had hit a fifty in the first match, scored 40 this time— highest for Oman, but his effort went in vain. Any of the other Omani batters were not able to offer a big challenge to the Bangladeshi bowling attack.

Mustafizur Rahman took a wicket in the second over of Oman’s innings, and he ended up taking four conceding 36 runs in four overs. Bangladeshi bowlers kept scalping wickets in regular intervals, and Oman was never in a better position while chasing a challenging target.

Shakib scalped three wickets conceding 28 runs in four overs. He also scored 42 runs with the bat. This all-round performance helped him win the player of the match award.

Earlier, the Tigers ended up scoring 153 for 10 in 20 overs, with the left-handed batters Mohammad Naim hitting the highest 64 off 50 balls. He was out of the playing XI in the first match. This time, Soumya Sarkar was overlooked to pave a way for Naim.

Bangladesh failed to have a good start once again. In the powerplay, they only posted 29 for two. Liton Das failed again— posting only six. He had scored five in the first match against Scotland.

Mahedi Hasan, who was promoted to number three, failed to score any runs. Two early wickets put Bangladesh into big trouble at the start of the innings.

The early damage was controlled well in the third wicket partnership when Shakib Al Hasan joined Naim, and they posted 80 off 53 balls. Shakib dismissed run-out while running casually when he was 42 of 29.

While going to 122 from 101, Bangladesh lost four wickets including Shakib and Naim.

Bangladesh made a few changes to the batting line today. Nurul Hasan got a chance at the higher place of the batting order but failed to do well. Nurul fell for 3.

Afif Hossain also got a chance at the higher place instead of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, but he failed to do well. Afif posted only 1.

Mahmudullah came to bat at seven while Mushfiqur took the field at number eight.

The onus was on Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur to score as many runs as possible in the last three overs, but they failed to do so. Mushfiqur fell for six while Mahmudullah scored 17.

Three of Bangladesh's first five batters were unable to reach a double-digit score.

For Oman, Bilal Khan and Kaleemullah bagged three wickets each while Fayyaz Butt and Mohammad Nadeem took two wickets each.

In the third and final match of Round 1, Bangladesh will take on Papua New Guinea who have lost their first two matches to Oman and Scotland. If Bangladesh can win against them, and Scotland beat Oman in their last match, Bangladesh will advance to Super 12s.

Bangladesh’s last match will take place on October 21 at 4pm Bangladesh time.
