Mahmudul Hasan Joy top-scored with 30 runs. Taijul’s 16 was the second-highest individual innings for Bangladesh.
All the batsmen, including Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Mehdiy Hasan Miraz, failed to impress. Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, was also lean in the middle.
In reply to Bangladesh’s below-par total, South Africa posted 140 for six to end day one of the Dhaka Test, securing a 34-run lead.
Hasan Mahmud scalped the first wicket. Then Taijul came to the scene in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan and played the role of the main bowler. He bagged five wickets in the day, with two in the 28th over of the innings.
At the end of the day, Taijul said they should have scored more runs in the first inning.
Kagiso Rabada, the South African pacer, said they want to increase the lead by at least 100 runs.
