Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has announced that he will make a decision regarding his career path after the upcoming session of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The BPL is scheduled to take place sometime following the next general election, slated for January 7, 2024.
Tamim held a meeting with high officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday.

Following the meeting, he called for a press conference at his residence in Dhaka and stated that he would determine his career direction after the conclusion of the BPL.
“I felt the need to come up with a decision about my future,” Tamim said. “But due to other commitments of cricket officials, I have to wait until the BPL.”
Tamim also mentioned that he plans to re-enter competitive cricket with the BPL, having been sidelined for months due to injuries. He missed the last Asia Cup and the World Cup due to the same reasons.

Having retired from cricket this year during a home series against Afghanistan, Tamim reversed his decision within 24 hours after discussing the matter with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, his return to cricket faced further delays due to long-standing injuries.
In the meantime, the Bangladesh team is gearing up for a two-match Test series against New Zealand, with the first match set to begin on Tuesday in Sylhet. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the team in the absence of regular captain Shakib Al Hasan.
