Dhaka, Sept 18 (UNB) – A brilliant hattrick by Iqbal enabled Dhaka Abahani Limited to reach the quarterfinal of the Walton Under-18 Football Tournament eliminating their traditional rivals Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 5-0 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Dhaka Mohammedan SC took the field on Wednesday in a must-win situation to stay in the race after suffering 0-4 goals defeat against Bashundhara Kings in the first match, but were eliminated from the meet conceding nine goals in two matches.
In the day’s match, Iqbal scored three goals in the 17th, 58th and 68th minutes to complete a hat-trick while Rakib and Sakir netted two more goals for Abahani in the 24th and 28th minutes respectively.
Imran scored the face–saving goal for Mohammedan in the 43rd minute from a penalty.
