Bangladesh, has been placed in the Group B along with hosts Sri Lanka, Nepal and UAE and started their campaign crushing UAE by 6 wickets with 141 balls to spare at Free Trade Zone grounds at Katunayake on Friday.
In the remaining group match Bangladesh will play host Sri Lanka on Tuesday at Moratuwa.
Sent into bat first, Young Tigers dismissed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for 127 runs in 28 overs with Osama Hassan scoring the highest 58 runs off 65 balls while Alishan Sharafu contributed 34 runs off 39 balls.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rakibul Hasan bagged three UAE wickets each while Shoriful Islam picked up two wickets for Bangladesh.
In reply, Young Tigers reached their target scoring the match-winner 128 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 21.3 overs.
Tanzid Hasan scored 45 runs off 27, Parvez Hossain Emon 30 runs off 33, Mahmudul Hasan Joy 27 runs off 40 balls for Bangladesh.
Rishabh Mukherjee picked up two wickets and KP Meiyappan and Sanchit Sharma bagged one wicket each.
In Friday’s other match, Nepal conceded a 5-wicket defeat to hosts Sri Lanka in their first match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
In the Group A, India grouped alongside Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kuwait.
Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals which are scheduled to be held on September 12 at two separate venues while the final will be held September 14.
Earlier, a 15-member Bangladesh U-19 team reached Sri Lanka on Tuesday to take part in the competition.
