Ghana, who suffered the defeat, was also eliminated from the World Cup’s group stage. Simultaneously, Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez's World Cup dream came to an end.
Giorgian de Arrascaeta scored both goals for Uruguay. Suarez played a key role in the first goal in the 26th minute of the match.
To qualify for the next phase, Uruguay needed to score one more goal at the last moment of the match to surpass South Korea’s goals scored in this World Cup. But they could not do that.
Uruguay's Luis Suarez, sitting on the sidelines, was seen covering his face with his shirt when the elimination was confirmed. It was most likely his final World Cup appearance, which ended in a 2-0 win over Ghana. In the other match of Group H of the Qatar World Cup 2022, South Korea beat Portugal by a score of 2-1 and advanced to the Round of 16.
