“It is not an ideal position we want to be in as a team, after fielding for so long. And not bowling Bangladesh out for a good total, you want to be in a better position. A bit disappointed for the team but we’ve got to come back tomorrow and bounce back,” Warrican said with a smile at me almost.
The tourists had a nightmarish evening here in Dhaka at the end of the second day’s play when they looked clueless against the Bangladeshi spinners.
The Tigers captain Shakib Al Hasan took the first Windies wicket before they added anything on the board. Mehidy Hasan Miraz followed his captain and took the next three wickets before Shakib scalped another one, at which point Windies had lost their first five wickets for just 29 runs - which is the lowest by any side down five against Bangladesh in Tests.
The Windies spinner insisted that the Mirpur wicket of the second day played a crucial rule for their batting collapse. Jomel said: “Obviously, it’s a day two-wicket coming on to the end of the play. When Bangladesh batted it was a day-one wicket, and much better. Also, we did not play well ourselves and bat good enough.”
Shimron Hetmyr and Shane Dowrich are the unbeaten batsmen of the Windies at the end of the second day. Jomel expressed his hope stating that this pair can make something remarkable to bring Windies back to the match.
