Earlier, Bangladesh made a frustrating start in the World T20 conceding a humiliating 60-run defeat against hosts West Indies in the first match as they were bundled out cheaply for 46 runs against Caribbean’s total of 106 for 8.
With the day’s feat, England topped the Group A list securing three points from two matches after a no-result match against Sri Lanka, hosts West Indies followed the leader neck and neck with full two points from one match while Bangladesh were at the bottom of the five-team group with an empty hand.
Sent to bat first, Bangladesh scored 76 for 9 in stipulated 20 overs with opener Ayasha Rahman contributing the team-highest 39 runs off 52 balls, featuring two fours and three sixes.
Apart from Ayasha, only two others Bangladeshi batter—middle-order Rumana Ahmed (10) and lower-order Jahanara Alam (12)—were able to reach the double digit.
Four Bangladeshi batters — opener Sharmin Sultana, one down Fargana Haque, two down Nigar Sultana and number six Sanjida Islam — went back to the pavilion with duck.
Left arm Kirstie Gordon was the most successful among the English bowlers grabbing three wickets for 16 runs in her four-over spell with a maiden and was adjudged player of the match.
Replying to a modest winning target of 77 runs, England scored 55 for 3 in 9 overs before the match was stopped due to rain.
Finally, the revised winning target for England was fixed at 64 runs in 16 overs under D/L method and they scampered home for the loss of three wickets in just 9.3 overs to win the match comfortably.
After the dismissal of two openers for 13 runs in 2.3 overs, one down AE Jones pairing with two down NR Sciver scored 38 runs in the third wicket stand to carry the team to 51 runs.
Jones remained not out on 28 runs off 24 balls hitting two boundaries, Sciver scored 17-ball 23 with the help of four fours while HE Knight made not out 11 off 9 balls with two fours.
Bangladesh skipper Salma Khatun grabbed two wickets for 17 runs while spinner Khadiza Tul Kubra took one for 13.
Bangladesh will play their next match against Sri Lanka on November 15 at the same venue.
