Oukitel, the renowned smartphone company that has earned its name building rugged devices, has introduced a rugged tablet, Oukitel RT8. It offers unique features and capacities that are rare in the category. The tablet hit the market in March 2024. Let’s have a look at its specifications.
Key Features of Oukitel RT8
Design
The Oukitel RT8 features a design with an all-glass front protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and a robust "Polymer" housing that feels like a mix between metal and plastic. It is resistant to dust and water, meets IP68/IP69K standards, and can withstand harsh conditions as per MIL-STD-810H compliance.
Measuring 265.1 mm by 176.7 mm by 15.1 mm (10.44 inch by 6.96 inch 0.59 inch), it weighs about 996.7 g (2.20 lb). While heavy for prolonged one-handed use, it has a built-in stand for convenience.

The right side houses the Type-C USB port, SIM, and SDCard slot, protected by rubber covers. Additionally, it has quad speakers for a rich sound experience, and the screen is TÜV SÜD certified for low blue light, reducing eye strain.
Display
The Oukitel RT8 has an 11-inch IPS LCD screen with a 1200 by 1920 pixels resolution. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, making it durable and resistant to scratches.
It has 500 nits brightness with a 90 Hz refresh rate. However, a higher refresh rate, brightness, and resolution could make RT8 deliver clearer and sharper images in the outdoor ambiance.

The RT8's display covers about 74.9% of the tablet's front, offering a good viewing experience. It also supports capacitive and resistive touch technologies, ensuring the touch screen remains sensitive even when used with gloves or when wet.
Cameras
The Oukitel RT8 features a triple camera setup on the back. It has a 48 MP main camera with an F/1.79 aperture and a wide 79.4° angle, made by Samsung. There's also a 20 MP night vision camera from Sony, with an F/1.8 aperture and a 78.5° field of view, plus a 5 MP macro camera with an F/2.2 aperture and an 83.15° field of view. Despite lacking optical image stabilization (OIS), the photos taken can be quite good, although capturing clear shots can be challenging, especially in low light.
The night vision camera must be enabled manually, which is inconvenient in pitch-black settings. The main camera can record videos at 1440p and 1080p at 30fps.

On the front, the RT8 has a 32 MP selfie camera with an F/2.2 aperture and a wide angle, capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps.
Overall, the camera system is decent but has some limitations, especially in low light and without OIS.
Performance and Hardware
The Oukitel RT8 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 6 nm chipset, an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. This advanced 6nm technology ensures efficient performance and smooth multitasking.

The tablet runs on Android 13, offering a stock Android experience without any bloatware aside from the "Toolbag" app. However, its user experience might be a bit slow during multitasking, which may dishearten many users.
It has 256GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM, expandable via a microSDXC card slot. However, a higher RAM capacity could make RT8 deliver better performance. It features UFS 2.2 data transfer technology.
RT8 has no heating issue. It is compatible with entry to moderate-level gaming. The performance of speakers is average.

Connectivity options include reliable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional LTE support. Benchmark tests showed average performance: GFXBench scored 605.7 frames, Geekbench 6 gave 731 for single-core and 1,984 for multi-core, and AnTuTu scored 390,797.
While the RT8 promises durability and software support is limited to four security updates a year with no upgrade path to Android 14, despite a 24-month warranty.
Battery and Charging
The Oukitel RT8 boasts a massive 20,000mAh battery. It supports 33W fast charging to power up the large battery. Furthermore, RT8 offers a reverse wired charging facility. It allows users to use this tablet as a power bank for charging smartphones.

This combination of long battery life and fast charging makes the RT8 perfect for heavy use and extended periods away from a power source. After 23 hours of moderate use, including benchmarks, taking photos, and watching YouTube videos, the battery only dropped from 96% to 86%. Oukitel claims the battery can last 90 days on standby, 112 hours of calling, 37 hours of music playback, 12 hours of video playback, and 24 hours of gaming.
