First introduced in 2010 with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S, the “S” series has since become one of the most popular and recognizable smartphone lines in the world. With each new release, Samsung has consistently improved and refined the Galaxy S, incorporating cutting-edge technology and features that have helped to define the modern smartphone landscape. The Galaxy S series is known for its high-quality displays, powerful cameras, and sleek, premium design.
Over the years, Samsung has expanded the Galaxy S series to include a range of models at different price points, making it accessible to a wide range of consumers. On February 17, Samsung launched a new line of phone S23 Ultra under the Galaxy S series. This 2023 edition of the S23 Ultra offers a second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 processor, as well as an S-Pen.
Key Features of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Despite its similar design to the previous model, Samsung has made some notable improvements to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, according to the South Korean electronics manufacturer. Let’s see what changes they have made.
At first glance, you'll immediately see that the Galaxy S23 Ultra has bigger cameras than the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Its 6.8-inch display boasts a less pronounced curve than its predecessor, resulting in a flatter surface area that is more comfortable to use with an S Pen.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra has been constructed to be remarkably robust due to its incorporation of Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the first phone to feature such protective layering. This new technology will provide superior defense against scratches and falls.
The new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is available in four distinct colors: Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender. Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra is an eco-friendly device with components crafted from recycled materials. For example, the S Pen inner cover and bottom speaker module are made from discarded fishing nets, the side key and volume key are from recycled water barrels, and the SIM tray is from recycled aluminum.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra retains a SIM card slot, unlike the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which resides on the underside of the device. It has a nearly identical form factor to the S22 Ultra, measuring 6.4 x 3.07 x 0.35 inches, but is slightly heavier at 8.25 ounces, compared to 8.08 ounces for its predecessor.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts an excellent display, identical to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Its 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen offers a resolution of 1440 x 3088 pixels along with a peak brightness of 1,750 nits. Additionally, users can enjoy the same 120Hz refresh rate, with the capability to reduce it to 1Hz.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra's screen offers an impressive 112% of DCI-P3 color gamut in Natural mode, making it a much more vibrant option than the iPhone 14 Pro Max's 83%. It also features Vision Booster, a nifty tool that allows users to adjust the display's color and contrast to suit their environment. For added comfort, the phone includes an eye comfort feature.
The phone features four back cameras, as well as a high-resolution 12-megapixel front-facing camera located at the top of the display.
The Ultra series from Samsung has always been renowned for its cameras, and its advanced multi-sensor setup has attracted millions of customers worldwide. The S23 Ultra features a 12MP ultrawide and dual 3x and 10x 10MP telephoto sensors on the back, but it's the primary camera that sets it apart - it has a record-breaking 200MP resolution, the highest ever on a Samsung phone.
