The ceremony was commenced by Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, said a press release.
The top officials of Symphony, including the Chairman of Edison Group, Aminur Rashid, Managing Director, Jakaria Shahid and Director of Edison Industries, S M Morshed-Uz-Zaman were also present at the programme.
Mustafa Jabbar said, “This achievement has added a new milestone in the digitization of Bangladesh. Our prime minister’s long desired dream of seeing local manufacturing of mobile handsets has been successfully turned into reality by Symphony.”
Managing Director Jakaria Shahid said “After receiving permission of setting up ‘A’ category industry, we are now focusing all our energy here so that we can produce handsets of international standards and in doing so, contribute greatly behind realizing the dreams of a digital Bangladesh.”
According to Symphony, Edison Industries Limited has been constructed on a massive 57,000 square foot space. Japanese and German machineries have been installed in the facility. Approximately 400-500 new workplaces have been created here. Initially, 30-40 lakh units of smartphones will be produced from 8 production lines. More of these lines are planned to be added in the future.
The director of Edison Industries, Mr. S M Morshed-Uz-Zaman informed that 80 percent of all workers have been hired from polytechnic institutes and were rigorously trained for months before placement.
