The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) said it is conducting its a 2.36-billion-baht (77.8-million-U.S. dollar) project to bury the city's electricity wires underground, at one of Bangkok's busiest streets at Ratchada-Asoke, along a stretch of 8.2 km.
The MEA hoped to finish the burying project within 2023.
Chaipat Sukpaibulwat, MEA's assistant director for project management, said the burying will only take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily to minimize impacts on residents' lives.
Chaipat said since Bangkok is now a city frequented by tourists, it is vital to enhancing the city's landscape.
Tangled mess of Bangkok overhead wires can pose danger as well, and they do not look good when tourists take photos and posts on social media, said Chaipat.
