US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump would do “what is necessary” to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“Iran really will never have a nuclear weapon,” Hegseth said during a panel discussion at the annual meeting of the Association of the US Army, responding to protesters shouting anti-war slogans.
Hegseth was interrupted several times by anti-war demonstrators during the event. One protester accused him of being a war criminal, while another called him a “coward”.
The defence secretary also reiterated the US claim that its military controls the Strait of Hormuz during the discussion with other Defence Department officials.
