Iran's chief negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has said the United States must take steps to prevent a renewed conflict following what he described as Tehran's “firm and rational response” to Washington.
Addressing parliament, Qalibaf said Iran remained prepared for “battle with its finger on the trigger”, Iranian state television reported.
He did not elaborate on the response he referred to, leaving it unclear what actions he meant.
His remarks came after a US official said American forces had carried out defensive strikes on some Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes targeted Iranians using surface-to-air missiles, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to comment publicly.
Iranian state television also reported that explosions were heard on Qeshm Island.
