Palestinian prisoner advocacy organizations and a civil society campaign have accused Israel of withholding the human remains of nearly 800 Palestinians.
In a joint statement, the organizations and the Palestinian National Campaign for the Retrieval of Martyrs’ Bodies and Disclosure of the Fate of the Missing alleged that they have identified 799 individuals whose remains are currently being held by Israeli authorities.
According to the statement, Israel’s ongoing withholding of these bodies "deprives Palestinian families of knowing the fate of their loved ones, bidding them farewell and burying them".
The campaign, a civil society group that also investigates missing persons cases, continues to demand that Israel release the bodies of deceased Palestinians so that their families can lay them to rest.
