At least 20 people were killed in a multi-vehicle road crash in Nigeria’s north-central Plateau state, the country’s road safety agency said Saturday.
The accident involved four vehicles and occurred on Friday along the Hawan Kibo-Jos route, a major road linking Plateau state with Abuja, the capital.
Preliminary findings suggest that brake failure may have caused the crash, according to the Federal Road Safety Commission.
Road accidents are common in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, partly due to poor road conditions and weak enforcement of traffic regulations.
