Air raid sirens were heard across parts of Israel early Tuesday following missile launches from Iran, further intensifying tensions as questions remain over a possible ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, the Israeli military confirmed that missiles had been fired from Iranian territory and advised residents to take cover.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, two rockets were launched toward northern Israel, both of which were intercepted by Israel’s air defense systems. The report added that one of the rockets was initially headed south.
Iran denies any ceasefire agreement with Israel at present
The missile launches and sirens came shortly after Israeli media outlets reported that Israel had paused its airstrikes on Iran around 0200 GMT, raising speculation that a ceasefire mentioned earlier by US President Donald Trump could be taking effect.
Meanwhile, Iranian state television claimed that Israeli forces assassinated Mohammad Reza Siddiqi, an Iranian nuclear scientist, in recent strikes.
The Israeli military has not issued any statement regarding the assassination allegation.
Tensions in the region escalated sharply on Sunday after US forces carried out strikes on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites.
These attacks marked the latest episode in a US-backed Israeli military offensive against Iran that began on June 13, triggering retaliatory strikes by Tehran targeting Israel.
