Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Sunday evening that he and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed to hold a meeting in New York.
"This meeting could change a lot. There is diplomatic momentum," Zelensky wrote on social media platform X following a telephone conversation between the two leaders.
Zelensky said that he and Trump discussed the upcoming visit to Ukraine by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, emphasizing that advancing the peace process remains Kyiv's top priority.
He added that they exchanged views on de-escalation measures and core security issues, including energy, food security and the protection of human lives.
Zelensky affirmed that Ukraine stands ready to continue working closely with the U.S. team and take "really serious steps".
