Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Canada on Thursday for talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney, seeking further military support as Russia intensifies its air campaign ahead of winter.

Zelenskyy said the focus was protecting Ukraine’s skies, strengthening resilience and preparing its energy system for winter. He said Russia was using ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones against Ukraine’s power grid to demoralize civilians.

Canada and European countries are supplying weapons and buying US arms for Kyiv through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), while President Donald Trump’s administration has stopped donating weapons to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said Canada had made a new decision on air defense, calling it crucial as such systems remain in global short supply. Carney pledged additional energy support, backing Ukraine’s NATO and EU membership bids and help with reconstruction after the war.

Zelenskyy said future negotiations with Russia must be entered from a position of strength, seeking a “strong and lasting peace.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine said its drones struck eight Russian war-supporting infrastructure targets, including a refinery in Siberia and a port in Dagestan. Russia said it downed 448 Ukrainian drones overnight. Russian strikes killed one person in Kyiv region and wounded at least 18 others across Ukraine.
