At least one person has died in Cox's Bazar city as Cyclone Hamoon battered the coastal regions of Bangladesh, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Khaleque, 40 of Pahartali area of Cox's Bazar city.
Confirming the incident, Cox’s Bazar Additional SP Rafiqul Islam said that the town has been without electricity since Tuesday evening.

The road communication between Cox's Bazar and Teknaf has been severed due to fallen trees, he said.
Meanwhile, cyclonic storm Hamoon is crossing the coastal areas of Bangladesh as of 9:00pm on Tuesday amidst heavy rain and strong wind, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
“The body of the cyclone is still crossing the coast. It is likely to move northeastwards and may complete the crossing in between Cox's Bazar-Chattogram coast near Kutubdia during the next 4-6 hours,” read the bulletin.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph, rising to 88 kph in gusts and squalls.
Earlier, a red alert was issued in Cox's Bazar regarding the cyclone.
