A 10-month-old baby has died at Shaheed Dr Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet with measles-like symptoms after a three-day gap in reported deaths from the disease.

The deceased was identified as Raihan, son of Ershad Mia of Salutikar area in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.

With the latest death, the number of people who have died in Sylhet division with confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths have risen to 109.

Of them, four deaths have been confirmed as measles-related, while the others died with suspected symptoms, according to a report from the Department of Health's Sylhet office issued on Monday.

The report said 72 patients with measles symptoms were admitted to different hospitals across the division from Sunday morning to Monday morning.

Of them, 20 were admitted to Shaheed Dr Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 30 to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, one each to Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital and North East Medical College Hospital, two to Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex, five to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex, three to Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital and 10 to Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital.

Currently, 268 suspected measles patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the division.

Among them, 80 are being treated at Shaheed Dr Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 85 at Osmani Medical College Hospital, 13 at Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, three at Mount Adora Hospital, one at Park View Hospital, 11 at North East Medical College Hospital, two at Al Haramain Hospital, one at Golapganj Upazila Health Complex, two at Fenchuganj Upazila Health Complex, two at Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex, five at Bahubal Upazila Health Complex, three at Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex, 41 at Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital, two at Habiganj District Sadar Hospital and 18 at Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital.

The report also said one patient was discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours after recovering.
