A mobile court of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted drives at major transport hubs in the capital and sentenced 16 people to different terms of imprisonment and fines through summary trials on Monday.
The drives were carried out at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal, Kamalapur Railway Station and Sayedabad Bus Terminal under the supervision of a special metropolitan magistrate.
During the operation at Sadarghat Launch Terminal, more than 100 illegal structures were demolished and two people were arrested.
At Kamalapur Railway Station, 14 people were detained. After summary trials, one person was sentenced to three months in jail, another to 20 days in jail, and six others to 15 days each. Six detainees were released.
Meanwhile, eight CR cases were filed during the drive at Sayedabad Bus Terminal and fines totaling Tk 21,000 were imposed.
According to DMP, such mobile court operations are being carried out regularly in the capital to curb crimes such as theft, snatching, drug-related offences, eve-teasing and illegal occupation of roads.
Police said the initiative allows victims to receive quick justice through summary trials and reaffirmed that DMP remains committed to taking strict action against law violators.
