Two people have been arrested in connection with killing a dog by throwing it into a river with a brick tied around its neck in Narsingdi.
In a statement on Saturday, the Narsingdi Superintendent of Police said a video circulated on social media on Thursday showed a dog being thrown into the river from the Nagriyakandi Bridge in Narsingdi district.
The dog had a rope tied around its neck, with a brick attached to the other end.
The incident recently went viral on social media, sparking widespread public outrage.
On the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, Narsingdi Sadar Police conducted a raid and arrested the main accused, Mohammad Ali, 25, son of Abdur Rob of Kamargaon village in Narsingdi.
A case has been filed with Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station and the accused has been sent to court.
In continuation of the operation, a team from the Narsingdi District Police Detective Branch (DB) arrested Shahinara Begum, 52, wife of Abdul Aziz of the same village.
Police arrested her from the New Bus Stand area of Narsingdi town at around 6:30 pm on Saturday.
Police said operations are ongoing to arrest other people involved in the incident.
