Dhaka, Sept 12 (UNB)- Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two members of a fake cigarette making syndicate from Gazipur on early Wednesday.
The arrestees are—Md Morshed, 47, and Md Monir, 40.
A team of CID, led by its Demra Unit senior ASP Iqbal Hossain, conducted a drive at a godown in hondona crossing and arrested Morshed.
The specialized anti-crime unit seized 500 cartons containing fake cigarettes of various brands of cigarettes, including Gold Leaf, Star, Derly, Derody and Sholer worth around Tk 4.20 lakh from the godown, said ASP Iqbal.
Based on his statement, the CID team arrested Monir from Tongi area on Wednesday afternoon, he said.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they were involved in marketing fake cigarettes for a long time evading Vat and Tax, he added.
