Two people were killed when a timber-laden truck fell into a deep gorge in Lama upazila of Bandarban on Thursday night.
The accident occurred at the Yangcha turning point of the Fasiakhali–Lama road.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Md Alamgir, 35, son of Abdul Kader of Yangcha Kalirjhirri area, and Anwar Hossain, 45, son of Mohammad Hossain of Poang Bari area.
Another named Putia from the Thandajhiri area was injured in the accident.
Officer-in-Charge of Lama Police Station, Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal, confirmed the incident.
Local sources said the truck loaded with timber was heading towards Yangcha from the Bonpur area of Fasiakhali around 8 pm on Thursday. When the vehicle reached the Yangcha turning point, the driver lost control and the truck plunged nearly 200 feet into a gorge.
Locals rescued Alamgir and Anwar as injured and took them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
The OC said the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families on Friday morning after an inquest as no complaint was filed.
An unnatural death case has been recorded and further legal action will be taken after investigation.
