Two people were killed when a train hit an auto-rickshaw at East Kathgarh BOC intersection level crossing in Satkania upazila of Chattogram district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 50, son of Abdul Mabud alias Kana Mamud of Maingapara area under Kaliaish Union and auto-rickshaw driver Abdus Shukkur, 40, of Dharmapur Union.
The accident occurred around noon when a Dhaka-bound train from Cox’s Bazar rammed the auto-rickshaw while it was crossing the level crossing, leaving one dead on the spot and another injured, said Sujon Kanti Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Chattogram Railway Police Station.
The injured was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Later, local people blocked the railway tracks, disrupting train services on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route.
On information, police and railway officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
