Two people were killed in a land-related dispute in Jashore on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place around 3:30 pm in front of Salua College in Chougachha Upazila.
One of the deceased, Rafiqul Islam (45), was the son of Tabzhel Mallik from Jaghati village, Churamankati Union, Jashore Sadar. The other, Abdul Alim Palash (35), was the son of Hazrat Ali from the same village.
Rafiqul was killed by Palash, as they were involved in a land dispute for the past two years. Palash however died of injuries sustained in a mob attack after his attack on Rafiqul. This information was confirmed by Abul Bashar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & OPS), Jashore.
Around 3:30pm on Tuesday, Palash reportedly found Rafiqul alone in front of Salua College and attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured.
Angry locals then surrounded Palash and beat him severely. Jashore Kotwali police mobile team rushed to the scene and took both men to Jashore General Hospital. The duty doctors there declared Palash dead, while Rafiqul died on the way to Dhaka for advanced treatment, according to police.
The bodies have been kept at Jashore General Hospital morgue for postmortem. Legal proceedings are ongoing in connection with the incident.
