Police have arrested two more people in connection with their alleged involvement in forcing Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Jawadul Haque to sign a resignation letter, from Baharampur area of the city on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are Ali Akbar Hossain and Delwar Hossain alias Dulal.
Gaziur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropoltian Police (RMP) said the two were arrested after their involvement was found through an analysis of video footage of the incident.
Efforts are underway to identify and arrest others involved in the incident by analysing the video footage, he said.
With their arrests, three people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
Earlier, police arrested Abdus Salam, vice-president of the Rajpara thana unit of BNP, over the incident.
On Tuesday, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated Krishak Dal entered the VC’s office and forced him to sign a resignation letter prepared by them.
He was subsequently removed from his office.
When his personal secretary Nazmul Hossain tried to protect the VC he was also assaulted and forced to sign a resignation letter.
University officials and employees were also allegedly assaulted during the incident.
On Tuesday night, Nazmul Hossain, a section officer and personal secretary to the VC, filed a case with Rajpara Police Station against 50 to 60 unidentified people in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, normal office activities at the university resumed on Thursday after breaking open the lock of the VC’s room in the presence of an executive magistrate.
