Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has fined 23 establishments, including a hospital at Dhanmondi and an under-construction building, after finding Aedes mosquito larvae as part of its ongoing drive to destroy Aedes breeding grounds responsible for dengue outbreaks.
After visiting 327 establishments and under-construction buildings, eight DSCC mobile court teams imposed fines totaling Tk 2,13,000 in 23 cases, according to a press release.

The drives were conducted in Dhanmondi 30, Gopibagh, Jhigatola, Bangshal, Maniknagar, Swamibagh, Manda, Notunpara, Demra, Rasulpur, Kutubkhali, Dhania and Jatrabari areas under the city corporation on Monday.
DSCC Executive Magistrate of Zone-5, SM Manjurul Haque, inspected 30 houses and establishments in the Dhanmondi-30 area.
The court imposed a Tk 30,000 fine on Dhanmondi Eye Hospital, Tk 50,000 on the engineer in charge of the building under construction by Concord Real Estate, and Tk 20,000 on the caretaker in charge of another building, it said.

Meanwhile, a special drive began on Monday to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae on all educational institutions premises, including schools and colleges under DSCC.
Leaflets were also being distributed to create awareness in educational institutions.
The country has been experiencing a massive rise in Dengue cases in the past few days. Since January this year, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recorded 13,843 dengue cases and 76 deaths across the country.
