Two cases have been filed in connection with the clash between members of Border Guard Bangladesh and cattle smugglers in Kauarkhop union under Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar that left one person dead and three injured on Saturday.
Mohaiminul Islam, member of the 11th battalion of the BGB, filed the cases at Ramu police station on Monday morning, said Anwarul Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
Around 250 named and unnamed people were made accused in the cases.
"Of the cases, one was registered on a charge of assaulting police and obstruction in discharging government duties, while another was filed under the Smuggling Act," added the OC.
"Efforts are on to arrest the accused," he said.
On Saturday night, BGB seized a consignment of cows smuggled from Myanmar and the smugglers tried to snatch them back, triggering a clash.
“At one point, the smugglers pelted the BGB members with brickbats, and the BGB members opened fire in self-defense, killing one of the smugglers and injuring three others.”
Four BGB members were also injured in the clash.
