For the first time, 28 students of the Faculty of Science at Comilla University (CU) were awarded the prestigious Dean’s Award on Tuesday.

The award was conferred on students from five departments who successfully completed their undergraduate degrees under the Dean’s Award guidelines. The ceremony was held at 11 a.m. in the faculty hall.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Haidar Ali, attended as the chief guest. He said, "A university develops based on the quality of its students. In this year’s CU admission test, 150 students competed for a single seat, and among the top 300 in the ‘A’ unit merit list, 250 were admitted. Talented students are joining, ragging has decreased, and I hope Comilla University will become a top university within five years."

He added, "The students of this university are like gold. Though raw, gold shines when polished. You should reflect your talent through your words and actions and become good human beings."

Proctor and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim, called the event a “gathering of talent.” He encouraged the awardees to maintain their excellence and uphold humanitarian values, saying, The greatest deficit in society today is humanity. You must consider the human aspect and contribute to society.

Special guests included Professor Dr. Sajal Chandra Majumder, Head of the Physics Department; Professor Dr. Dulal Chandra Nandi, Head of the Statistics Department; and Professor Dr. Md. Shahadat Hossain, Head of the Chemistry Department. The ceremony was presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr. Pradip Debnath.
