Police on Wednesday afternoon detained three activists of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies and recovered a large cache of equipment for making petrol bombs from a house in Faridpur.
The detainees were identified as Md. Hossain Raj, Ahamudul Rashid Rakib and Jewel Rana, a press release signed by the Faridpur Police Super said.
The release accused the party and its affiliates of attempting to create chaos, carry out destructive activities and spread sabotage via social media.
According to police, the suspects had stored the materials in the abandoned house of one Titu Sardar in Brahmanpara, Azim Nagar Union under Bhanga Police Station. Acting on information, police raided the house and made the arrests.
Items recovered include 19 handmade petrol bombs, multiple empty glass bottles (250 ml and 200 ml brands), 18 rolls of colored tape, 12 tin cans of Jorda, 235 matchboxes, various strings/lights, sheets and fragments of gunpowder, 60 g matchbox gunpowder, 1 kg white stone powder, 2 litres of petrol, a knife and other components used in bomb-making.
