Three police members of Satkania Police Station in Chattogram have been withdrawn and attached to the police lines in connection with their alleged involvement in looting 30,000 yaba pills from a mini-truck in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram district.
The punitive actions were taken against Sub-Inspector SM Mahbubul Islam and constables Foyez Ahmed and Gazi Md Mohsin, said Superintendent of Chattogram Police Masud Alam on Thursday.
According to police sources, an office order signed by the superintendent on Wednesday directed the withdrawal of the three members. The matter came to light on Thursday.
The action was taken after a preliminary inquiry found substance in the allegations against them, while an investigation into the incident is still underway.
According to the allegations, a mini-truck carrying 30,000 yaba pills was being transported from Chakaria in Cox's Bazar towards Chattogram on Saturday night.
Several police members on motorcycles intercepted the vehicle on a deserted road in Putibila Union of Lohagara upazila and later took it to Keranihat in Satkania.
But instead of recovering the Yaba consignment, the police who showed up allegedly looted the yaba pills from the driver's seat with the assistance of two alleged police informants - Robin and Momin.
Further action against those involved would be taken after completion of the investigation, police said.
