Police arrested four alleged activists of the Awami League, which activities are banned, and its affiliated organisations while they were preparing for a procession in the capital’s Banani area on Tuesday.
The arrestees are identified as Aslam Mia, 25, Md Ashikul Islam, 24, Md Mahfuzur Rahman Siam, 19, and Md Monir Hossain, 48.
Quoting Banani Thana Police, DMP's ADC (Media) Niaj Mehedi said that the incident took place at around 1:25pm in front of the CM Pump on the Mahakhali-Tejgaon main road, near the gate of the Institute of Public Health under the Banani Police Station area.
Acting on information that leaders and activists of the AL and its wing organisations were preparing for a procession, a team of Gulshan and Banani police rushed to the spot.
Sensing the police presence, those preparing for the procession allegedly exploded several crude bombs and tried to flee. Police arrested three of them and recovered evidence related to the explosions from the scene.
Another person was caught by local people while fleeing and handed over to police at the Mahakhali Terminal Police Box under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.
During initial questioning, the arrested persons were found to have links with the Awami League and its affiliated organisations in the Mirpur area, police said.
Legal action against the four arrested persons and the organisers of the flash procession is under process.
