Police in a drive arrested five people in Adabor area of the capital early Monday for their alleged involvement in an attack on a house in the Shyamoli Housing area.
The arrestees were identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 65, Mohammad Russell, 20, Mohammad Atikul, 25, Mohammad Russell Piyada, 22, and Lion, 21.
Police said a group of 15-20 masked men, equipped with local weapons and firearms, attacked a building in the Shyamoli Housing area around 6:30am on Saturday.
They also attempted to enter the building forcibly and hacked at the main gate with machetes, damaging the doors and windows, police said.
A case was filed with Adabor Police Station in connection with the incident.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Adabor police, with the help of technology, arrested Azad from the area around 12:05am, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Akhter Hossain.
Following interrogation, police arrested the other accused in the case around 6:05am.
Police also recovered a sharp weapon from their possession.
There had been a longstanding dispute between two groups over ownership of the building, police said.
