Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said locals spotted the bomb in a packet when they were collecting firewood in the jungle at Chandrabas village of the union on Tuesday afternoon.
On information, police rushed in, recovered the bomb and put it in a sand-filled bucket in Natudah Police Camp.
Later, a bomb disposal unit of Rapid Action Battalion reached the spot around 5pm and defused it.
Selim Azad, chief of the bomb disposal unit, said the bomb was exceptional and made in a shape of coconut which is very new to them.
The exploded parts of the bomb will be examined in the forensic lab, he added.
Abu Russel, assistant superintendent of police of Chuadanga, said the bomb was of latest model.
He also said they were trying to identify those who kept the bomb in the jungle. “’The criminals will be brought to book soon,’’ added the ASP.
The Superintendent of Police Mahbubur Rahman said the criminals might have planned to carry out acts of sabotage ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
