5,000 people in 8 villages in Patuakhali celebrate Eid early in line with Saudi Arabia


Around 5,000 people from eight villages in Kolapara upazila of Patuakhali celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr today in line with Saudi Arabia, marking the occasion a day ahead of the national observance.

The main Eid congregation was held at Jahagiria Shah Sufi Momtazia Darbar Sharif ground in Uttar Nishanbariya, Dhankhali Union, at around 8:45 am on Sunday.

Additional prayers were also held in two villages of Rangabali and at Badarpur Khanka Sharif in Patuakhali Sadar Upazila.

A festive atmosphere has been prevailing since morning in 22 villages in the district, where nearly 25,000 people joined the celebrations.

Locally, these communities are known as followers of Elahabad Sufia and Chan Tupi from Chattogram.

For nearly a century, they have been observing Eid in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting.
