A Faridpur court on Monday sentenced seven people to life terms in jail in a murder case in Sadar upazila of Faridpur around 10 years back.
Judge of Faridpur Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Md Shihabul Islam also fined each of the convicts Tk 10,000 , in default of which they will have to serve three more months’ jail, said the court’s Prosecutor Md Sanowar Hossain.
The convicts Babul Miah, 22, Md Saddam Sheikh, 27, Md Suruj Sardar, 26, Md Nishan, 22, Md Rony, 22, Chand Miah Sardar, 28, Md Rana, 20, are residents of Sadar upazila of the district.

Of them, Chand Miah and Rana are absconding and the rest were inside the dock when the judgment was being delivered.
According to the case statement, on March 6 of 2013 all the accused picked up one Asad, a resident of Paschim Khabaspur area in the Sadar upazila, to a students’ mess where they stabbed and beat him for obstructing them from peddling drugs.
Later, he was rescued and taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

On March 11, the victim’s brother Ashraful Alam filed a murder case with Kotwali police station in this regard.
Police submitted chargesheet against the accused at a court on December 31 of the same year.
After completing legal procedures, the court handed down the judgment in the presence of five out of the seven accused on Monday.
