In Dinajpur, six people died and seven others fell ill after drinking ‘toxic liquor’ at Mahmudpur village in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Matin, 27, son of Anwarul Islam, Azizul Islam, 33, son of Tofazzal Hossain, Mahsin Ali, 38, son of Sultan Mahmud, Amrita Roy, 25, son of Taposh Kumar, Shafiqul Islam, 45, and his wife Manju Ara, 35 of the upazila.
Maniruzzaman Manir, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station, said twelve people drank the alcohol after purchasing it from a local shop on Tuesday evening and fell sick.
Matin, Azizul and Mahsin died on Tuesday night while Shafiqul and his wife died in the morning at their houses.
Besides, seven people were taken to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital as they fell sick after drinking the liquor where Amrita died later.
In Rangpur, three people died after drinking ‘rectified spirit’ fat Shyampur bazar in Badarganj upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Nur Islam, 30, son of Abdul Hamid, Sarwar Hossain, 31 and Mostafa Kamal, 30 of the upazila.
Sajedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Sadar Police Station, said all the three drunk the liquor on Eid day on Monday and fell sick.
Later, they were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where they died on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
