Footpaths around Hope Market at Mirpur-10 are now largely free of hawkers and makeshift shops following an eviction drive, allowing pedestrians to walk more comfortably along the main roads of the area.
Local pedestrians said they are facing fewer difficulties in moving around the area as the footpaths are no longer occupied by hawkers and mobile shops.
The change came two days after a clash between hawkers and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) staff and police during an eviction drive in the area.
Several people, including police personnel, were injured in the clash, which began on the footpath in front of Hope Market as DNCC staff conducted the drive from Mirpur-10 to Mirpur-14 from around 10am.
Two DNCC dump trucks were set on fire and three bulldozers were vandalised during the clash. A police vehicle was also vandalised.
The cleared footpaths around Hope Market and nearby areas are allowing pedestrians to use the main roads more freely, with local residents saying the removal of roadside stalls has eased their everyday movement.
