Young people from across the world will march on the streets from Sept 20 to 27 as part of the Global Climate Week starting Friday.
Thousands of schoolchildren all around the world, including Bangladesh, joined the climate action movement ‘Fridays for Future’.
Expressing solidarity, ActionAid Bangladesh joined the march in front of the National Press Club demanding national and international climate action.
In early August 2018, climate scientists warned that we have only a dozen years to limit climate change catastrophe.
According to them, temperatures need to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.
Later, following the global movement of schoolchildren started by Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg, young people are leading a global climate movement demanding urgent action to secure their future.
In a statement, ActionAid Bangladesh said it believes that urgent climate actions need to be taken at both national and international level.
“We express our support to the global voice of young people demanding necessary action to ensure climate justice,” it said.
ActionAid as Federation has been advocating for Climate Justice for over 14 years now working from grassroots level to global policy spaces.
