Kushtia, Sept 26 (UNB) – An Awami League activist was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy at Matpur village in Sadar upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Azim Mandal, 60.
Jahangir Arif, officer-in-charge of Islami University Police Station, said Abdul Majid, a member of district unit Awami League and Abu Bakar Siddique, general secretary of Ujangram union Awami League, had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy.
As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of the two groups locked into an altercation in the morning, triggering a clash that left one dead and five people injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
