The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Major (retd) Khandaker Abdul Hafiz in a case filed over alleged anti-state conspiracy, violent incitement, illegal funding, and social media propaganda.
A DB team picked him up from the capital’s Banani area late Thursday night, said DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam.
He said Hafiz was arrested in connection with the case in which two other former Army officers have already been arrested.
Shafiqul alleged that Hafiz, Lt Col (retd) Debashish Kumar Barua and Lieutenant (retd) Kazi Gulshan Ara were involved in anti-state activities.
Debashish and Gulshan Ara are currently in jail in connection with the case filed with Pallabi Police Station under several sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Cyber Security Ordinance.
Earlier, DB arrested the two retired Army officers from Dhaka on the night of October 11.
It earlier claimed that it had information about their alleged links to activities of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, as part of an alleged conspiracy to create instability in the country.
The DB also said the two officers were arrested based on specific information about their alleged involvement in anti-state propaganda on social media and attempts to undermine public security through cybercrimes.
