An autorickshaw driver was hacked to death after unidentified assailants entered his home in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Akash Mia, 25, son of Aftab Uddin of Kirtibashdi village under Daulatpur Union.
Akash used to drive a battery-run autorickshaw in the area.
According to his father, Akash slept in one part of a room where cattle were also kept. Early in the morning, Aftab woke up and called Akash to help take a cow outside. After letting the cow out, Akash went back to sleep.
Aftab then took the cow to a nearby field, while Akash’s mother went to her sister’s house.
When they returned home around 9am, they found the door of the room open and heard groaning from inside.
They rushed in and found Akash lying injured with deep cuts above his right eye and on his head. He was unable to speak and was only groaning.
He was taken to Monohardi Upazila Health Complex with the help of local residents, but he died on the way.
On information, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital after preparing a report.
Abed Ali, sub-inspector of Monohardi Police Station, said police are investigating the incident and making efforts to uncover the motive behind the killing and identify those involved.
