A CNG-run autorickshaw driver was killed and a mechanic was injured on Sunday after they were hit by another CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Rampura Bridge in the capital.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali, 35, of Batajor village under Bokshiganj upazila of Jamalpur district.
He died around 5:00 am while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
According to the victim's brother, Manzurul, the accident occurred around 10:00 pm on Saturday when Yusuf's CNG-run auto-rickshaw developed a mechanical fault on Rampura Bridge.
Yusuf got out of the vehicle and was repairing it with the help of mechanic Kamal when another CNG-run auto-rickshaw, coming from the opposite direction crashed into them, leaving both seriously injured.
After being informed, family members rescued the two around 11:30 pm and took them to DMCH.
Kamal received first aid and was later discharged, while Yusuf was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
He lated succumbed to his injuries.
Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy and Rampura Police Station has been informed of the accident.
