On the first day of the centenary year – 2020 - of the birth of Bangabandhu, the Australian High Commissioner accompanied by her spouse Dr Peter Shannon, travelled to Tungipara, Gopalganj to pay respects to Bangladesh’s Father of the Nation, said the Australian High Commission in Dhaka on Thursday.
In paying their respects at the birthplace and the grave of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, High Commissioner Niblett underlined the leading role he played in the founding of the independent nation of Bangladesh.
As announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, March 2020 to March 2021 would be observed as ‘Mujib Borsho’ (Mujib Year) across the country to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
